Twin Town Challenge 2018 visits Houses of Parliament

I recently had the pleasure of attending an afternoon reception hosted by Witney MP, Robert Courts, as part of the launch for Twin Town Challenge 2018 in aid of Special Effect.

The event kicked off the search for sponsors for TTC18 and guests heard presentations by SpecialEffect founder, Dr Mick Donegan and Twin Town organiser, Brendon Cross.

win Town Challenge 2018 is a charity car rally that will see 100 cars costing just £500 travel from Blenhiem Palace, near Witney to its twin town of Le Touquet. The event takes place over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend 2018 and will raise money for Oxfordshire charity, SpecialEffect. Participants are expected to include businesses and individuals from across Oxfordshire and the games industry.

FOCUS supported the event in 2016 and FOCUS Oxford Risk Management is delighted to be both a main sponsor and a team participant for 2018.

All the costs of the event are covered by sponsorship so that every penny paid by the teams to enter and all their fundraising goes directly to the charity. Building on the success of previous events in 2014 and 2016, which jointly raised over £500,000 for SpecialEffect, the 2018 event is expected to raise a record £500,000.

Organiser Brendon Cross said

Being the third Twin Town Challenge, many businesses have experienced the positive impact that sponsoring this event can have on their staff, customers and the many opportunities it creates to raise awareness of their firm.

Many sponsors have been quick off the mark to sponsor specific activities for TTC18 in order to make the most of the publicity in the run up to this event. From volunteer kit to media bus, breakfasts, lunches and dinners to the safety briefing, very pound of sponsorship helps us to achieve our goal of half a million pounds.

We would encourage people to go online and register to take part now in order to avoid disappointment as we can only take 100 cars.

TTC18 will depart from Blenheim Palace and head to France where teams will enjoy a weekend of fun challenges including treasure hunt and car based activities, including a day at a motor circuit. The centre of Le Touquet comes to a stand still on the Sunday evening when the Village Idiots, an 11-piece band from Stonesfield in Oxfordshire, will play live in at a mega Anglo-French street party.

The money raised will be used by SpecialEffect to help more young people with disabilities to play computer games and communicate using eye gaze technology.

Dr Mick Donegan, founder and CEO of SpecialEffect, commented

The success of the amazing Twin Town Challenge has enabled us to employ more staff and buy more vehicles so that we can get out and help even more people. The legacy continues with SpecialEffect being adopted as charity of the year by a number of businesses and awareness of the event continue to be raised and celebrated with a number of award wins.
