Using lockdown to organise your financial life

The New Year has perhaps not started as we hoped it would as we find ourselves in another national lockdown.  Once again, many of us are facing the challenges of working from home whilst juggling the needs of our families and home-schooling whilst the vaccines are rolled out.
The arrival of January often sees talk of resolutions, diets and the like but with Covid-19 continuing to affect our lives in so many ways, most of us have other priorities this year. With finances being stretched in many households, lockdown does give us the time to look at areas of our lives where we can make changes.

Mortgage rate review

The biggest financial commitment you are likely to have is your mortgage – but do you know when it’s due for review?

Your current lender will contact you before that date, but they may not have the best or most appropriate rate to suit your needs and will only be able to offer you their limited range of rates and products.   FOCUS has access to over one hundred different lenders and several thousand products.  We can look at the market to ensure you have the most appropriate and competitive rate to suit your specific needs.

Our advisers are on hand to guide you through the process and advise you of the best deals available.  We are passionate about customer service and highly experienced in the field of mortgages.  We will provide professional, individual advice and keep you updated right from your initial enquiry through to completion.

If you know the date your current mortgage rate ends, please do let us know and we will make a diary note to ensure we contact you in good time ahead of the date.

And by telling us when your mortgage review date or anticipated property purchase will be, you will be entered into our fabulous prize draw to win a 2-night dinner, bed and breakfast stay at Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa. Find out more here.

A mortgage is a loan secured against your home or property. Your home or property may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
You may have to pay an early repayment charge to your existing lender if you remortgage.

Home Insurance cover

Christmas may well have been different this year, but if you received gifts such as jewellery or a watch, then make sure your home insurance is up to date.

Even if there are no new additions to make to your policy – are your current sums insured sufficient? Values on many items – including jewellery, art and antiques have increased significantly over the last few years and your home insurance needs to reflect this.

And does your home buildings and contents insurance give you the cover you need? Whether you need cover for working from home or want the added protection of cyber insurance to protect your home network, it’s worth checking the small print as not all policies are the same.

Why not take a few minutes to review our articles on making sure you have the right cover in place – it could save you thousands in the event of a claim:

Life insurance and protection

Reviewing your life insurance arrangements is another extremely worthwhile exercise – especially in today’s world where there are many different options and added benefits available from innovative product solutions.

In a today’s climate where money’s tight and you’ve got debts to pay off, that insurance policy might seem too extravagant. But think again.

Around a million people in the UK suffer an injury or a serious illness that means they can’t work for a month or more. * Ill health can happen to anyone, any time. But income protection could provide you with an income if you’re too ill to work. How else would you plan to pay your credit card bills? *

The average age of people making an insurance claim for Income Protection and Critical Illness is between 40 and 50 years old. It is more likely for a younger person to be unable to work for an extended period, and more likely for an older person to suffer from a critical illness. *
